OUR Associates of applied science in medical assisting PROGRAM
Our Associate of Applied Science Degree in Medical Assisting (AAS MA) Program is designed to provide graduates with the skills to assistant doctors, nurses, and medical professionals in their offices and other health care settings.
Our students take both general education and technical courses so they can gain the academic theory and technical skills needed to succeed in a medical environment. In the AAS Medical Assistant Program, students learn the structure and function of the body’s systems, medical terminology, diagnostics, therapeutic procedures, computer skills, administrative processes, bookkeeping, and the processing of health insurance claims.
Vantage College provides services such as flexible tutoring schedules, class-related field trips, guest speakers, and interview preparation. We also require externships to ensure our students receive hands-on, real world experience to assist them in finding gainful employment. Once a student completes training, our full time Career Services staff offers job placement assistance, as well as guidance and support even after completion of the program.
Upon graduation, our students receive an Associates of Applied Science degree. As Vantage graduates know, medical assisting is more than a job. It is a career that can make a difference in someone’s life.
PROGRAM FEATURES
Duration: This program takes approximately 48 weeks (1220 clock hours) to complete. Classes start every 2-3 weeks.

WHERE WILL THE DEGREE BE USED?
Among those dependent on Medical Assistants for their front and back office skills are:
Physicians, ambulatory care centers, clinics, hospitals, urgent care centers, nursing homes, medical supply companies, home health agencies, insurance providers, blood donation centers, pharmaceutical companies and offices of other healthcare practitioners such as optometrists and dentists. Upon graduation, students receive an Associate of Applied Science.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Medical Assisting program allows the graduate to fill various positions, such as:
Medical Assistant, Chiropractor Assistant, Clinical Assistant, Doctor's Assistant, Medical Assistant (MA), Medical Office Assistant, Ophthalmic Technician, Optometric Assistant, Optometric Technician.
CAREER PROSPECTS
The healthcare field is rapidly expanding, both nationwide and especially across the state of Texas. Medical assistants are in high demand, as they play a central role in the day-to-day operations of medical practices. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Medical Assistants make an average of $30,000 a year. In addition, employment opportunities for medical assistants in Texas are expected to expand by 32% over the next five years.
